Edexcel A Level Spanish (9SP0) — Paper 1, Section B: Reading
Reading Practice (Q5–Q7) 1–5: Mark Scheme
Marking principles (based on the Pearson 9SP0/01 mark schemes and examiner reports)
• Questions 5 and 6: one mark for each correct box crossed. Crossed-out work should be marked unless the student has replaced it with an alternative response (Pearson). The Pearson mark schemes list only the four Question 6 letters and state no rule for extra crosses; our suggestion is to deduct one mark for each cross beyond four, so students learn to cross exactly four.
• There are no marks for quality of language. Spelling and grammar errors are tolerated as long as the message is not ambiguous.
• Written responses in the wrong language (e.g. English) cannot be awarded a mark.
• Students do not need to write full sentences; single words or short phrases are acceptable (e.g. «habla inglés», «no sabían nada»).
• Order of elements: consider only as many elements as there are marks. For a 1-mark question the first answer given is marked, even if a correct answer follows. For 2-mark questions award each mark separately, applying the same rule.
• Students may use words from the text, but must not copy («lift») whole sections where the question requires them to manipulate the language. Lifts that do not answer the question are listed in the Reject column.
• «Da dos ideas»: the two marks are for two separate ideas. Two details that make the same point score one mark only.
• Numbers must be complete and have their unit (años, meses, semanas). Answers that change or drop digits do not score.
• Variants on the listed answers should be accepted if they convey the same meaning. Use the English key idea to judge.
