| In Spain, young people leave their parents’ home later than in most European countries. Many of them have been looking for a stable job for years, but rents have risen so much that it is almost impossible to save. Lucía, a twenty-nine-year-old nurse whose salary is not enough to pay for a flat, still lives with her mother. “If I earned a little more, I would share a flat with my friends,” she admits. It is not surprising that young couples are having fewer children, which worries the government. Politicians have talked about building more affordable housing, but few believe that the problem will be solved soon. |
